Good Morning...

On Monday February 5th the U.S Dept. of Education held a briefing on the President's Fiscal Year 2008 Budget Request.  A PDF summary of that request can be found HERE (Thank you Karen for sending it to me).  By the way the summary is 119 pages long.

Great Opportunity to Submit an Unsolicited Application to the U.S DOE

The U.S Department of Education's laceType w:st="on">InstitutelaceType> of laceName w:st="on">Education ScienceslaceName> announces its interest in considering unsolicited applications for research, evaluation, statistics, and dissemination projects that would make significant contributions to the mission of the Institute.  The Institute's mission is to conduct and support rigorous education statistics, research, and evaluation in order to provide reliable information about the condition of education, education practices that improve academic achievement, and the effectiveness of federal and other education programs.  Unsolicited applications are defined as those that are not eligible for funding under the Institute's current grant competitions.  The Institute's current grant competitions are those for the current fiscal year (FY2007), both open and closed, that are described at http://ies.ed.gov/funding/.

I really like it when the USDOE offers this annual opportunity because it gives you (folks in the trenches) an opportunity to focus on research, evaluation, statistics or dissemination projects that are important to you.  If you have something good going on and you need to build some data or you want to demonstrate just how good your program is, here's your chance.

A Tip of the Hat to the Texas Education Agency (TEA)

The Texas Education Agency (TEA) Office for Planning, Grants and Evaluation (OPGE) informed this week that they have a brand new website. This site combines the listing of all grant opportunities onto one website for the purpose of providing convenient and focused access to all TEA grant information. This site is now the central resource for all State and Federal grant opportunities administered by TEA. The site contains links to all available TEA grants (paper and eGrants) as well as grant management and administrative guidance. (This site incorporates the information formerly available on the Division of Discretionary Grants, Division of Formula Funding, Funding Opportunities and Grants Management, and eGrants websites).  The TEA Grant Opportunities page is located at the following address:
http://burleson.tea.state.tx.us/GrantOpportunities/forms.

I looked the site over and must say they did a fine job.  Well done Texas.
Kathleen, thank you for sharing this news with me.

Are You Getting My Bi-Weekly Alerts Recap?

Every two weeks I send out a recap of all the alerts I've posted to the GrantsAlert.com website.  If you aren't getting these, there are two possible reasons.  First, you didn't sign up.  Second, your spam blocker is redirecting the recaps email to your spam file.  You need to let your system know I'm ok.  And if you haven't signed up to receive the recaps, you can sign up by going to www.GrantsAlert.com and at the top of the page insert your email address.

K-12 HP Technology for Teaching Grant Initiative

The K-12 HP Technology for Teaching grant initiative is designed to support innovative and effective uses of technology in the classroom setting.  HP will grant at least 130 awards to K-12 public schools that are using a collaborative, team-based approach to implementing technology integration projects. Based on the outcomes of those projects, some recipients may receive additional, higher value grants from HP in 2008.

School teams consisting of 5 teachers will receive the equipment, professional development and support they need to effectively integrate technology into their instruction.

In the selection process, preference will be given to schools that serve a large number of low-income students, relative to district or state free and reduced price lunch percentages, and to projects that included integration of mathematics and/or science curriculum.  Additional consideration will be given to schools in selected districts.  Please refer to the review selection criteria of the K-12 RFP for more information.

Due date:  February 15, 2007
